Racers Shouldn't Finish Last

As Murray State University staff, faculty and student workers, we believe that Racers shouldn’t finish last. We shouldn’t finish last in academic excellence; we shouldn’t finish last in student support; and we shouldn’t finish last in worker compensation. Instead, as President Patterson said at the March 10 budget town hall, Racers should lead from the front.

Our Platform

Murray State University works because of its workers, and we are invested in its success.  Higher education is transforming in ways that impact everyone’s working conditions, and we deserve a voice in how those changes affect us.  We need a university that listens to us, offers just compensation, and treats its workers fairly.

We are cultivating a community of workers from all departments and job classes so that we can build the power necessary to affect positive chance across the university addressing issues such as:

True shared governance: decisions at the highest level impact all of us.  We are working to create a community where worker input is integral to the decision-making process rather than a mere afterthought.

Just compensation: despite recent corrective efforts, pay for many workers lags behind our peers. We advocate for fair and living wages for workers of all job classes at our institution.

Fair treatment: workers deserve to be treated with respect and dignity, acknowledging that they make our institution the wonderful place it is. This requires that they be allowed to perform their duties free of harassment and coercion.

No “doing more with less”: as the institution experiences staffing cuts, workloads must not be redistributed in ways that overburden already over-tasked workers.

Together, we are confident that Murray State University can truly become the finest place we know.
