Our Demands
In light of the record-breaking 27% positivity rate in Jefferson County and the spread of a highly contagious COVID-19 variant that appears to be less controlled by vaccines, masks, and distancing, we, the undersigned students, faculty, staff, alumni, parents of students, and community members at the University of Louisville, call on Interim President Lori Gonzalez to immediately take the following steps to ensure the health and safety of the campus community for all students and workers:
1. Allow instructors to move their courses online and allow employees whose work affords it the opportunity to be remote or partially remote at their discretion
2. Offer hazard pay to frontline staff.
3. Provide high-quality N95/KN-95 masks to everyone in the campus community throughout the semester and make at-home test kits available on demand. As has been reported, cloth masks do not protect against the omicron variant.
4. In keeping with the federal standard, mandate weekly (not just monthly) testing for unvaccinated Cardinals who will be on campus
5. Protect students and workers by enforcing meaningful consequences for failure to mask or comply with regular testing.
6. Be transparent with the campus community about COVID-related data, including infection rate, vaccination rate, and contact tracing.
- Test results from Campus Health, where symptomatic students are required to go, are not currently included in UofL’s COVID dashboard.
- In addition, our 91% vaccination rate includes partially vaccinated people, and it is unclear what percentage of the community has gotten a booster shot.
